Disordered Eating

Learning to nourish yourself in a way that “makes sense” to you leads to optimal, lasting health.  This process involves discerning when to go inside for answers and when to reach for external resources.  Diet culture, adverse experiences, parallel systems of oppression, chronic stress, and trauma can directly or indirectly create a disconnect between mind and body.  This disconnect can make it very difficult to go inside for guidance and to understand the feedback your body provides.  Lauren holds space for individuals to get to know their unique body, how it communicates, and honor the needs it has.  This process often involves re-learning how to listen to your senses with curiosity, building trust, repairing communication, establishing clarity, and resourcing the body’s internal compass.

Somatic Wellness Coaching

Somatic wellness coaching is designed for individuals who desire to build self-trust, peace, and authentic connection with their own body. Support and education will be provided to help you reclaim your ability to honor your body’s fueling needs, including hunger, fullness, pleasure, and satisfaction. We will work together to deconstruct unhelpful beliefs and stress around food and body. Guidance will be provided as you explore reconnecting to your body in a way and pace that works for you using somatic body-based interventions. Together we will identify and work through barriers to your goals to learn (or relearn) how to nourish the most expansive life you desire.

* Individual coaching is not appropriate for people struggling with active and diagnosed eating disorders. Coaching is appropriate for people who are in stable recovery
from an eating disorder or who are working with another medical provider to manage their medical condition in certain preapproved circumstances.

Eating Disorder Nutrition Therapy

Initial Consultation

Our first session together is dedicated to getting to know each other. During this time you will be invited to share more about your medical history, lifestyle, typical eating patterns, current and past relationship with food, movement, and your body. We will also discuss your desired outcomes and start to work together to create an individualized plan for moving forward.

Follow Up

Frequency and total number of sessions will be based on your specific needs. These appointments are to follow up on your nutrition needs, identify and process barriers, explore reconnecting with your body at a pace that works for you, and address any questions/concerns you may have

Trauma Informed Care

At times, the healing process may feel challenging or even impossible – as a trauma-informed and relationally oriented provider, Lauren won’t force you to dive into the deep end before you are ready.  We only go as fast as our slowest parts can handle, so some of our stepping stones together may look like wading in the shallow end. Utilizing body-awareness modalities such as Somatic Experiencing when we feel “stuck” can address the physiology of chronic stress and trauma stored in the body along with our body’s natural defensive responses: fight, flight, fawn, freeze.  This gentle approach helps restore balance in the nervous system, regain an internal sense of safety, and promotes resiliency.  Overtime, modalities that strengthen the mind-body connection can help us integrate past experiences and increase our capacity to connect with food and movement while also being present in our bodies in a safe and supportive way.
